I’m not sure that I have any energy to write. I’m in the Philippines. Well, in the airport in Manila anyway. Though it’s already super clear that I am in the Philippines. Everyone smiles and everyone seems happy and everyone is friendly. There are English songs from the fifties playing over the speakers and every …
Festival in Legazi, Philippines
I was very lucky in that a month-long fiesta was just getting started in Legazpi when I arrived. Every day brought new and exciting things to see on the streets – parades and dance contests.

6:33 a.m. Mayon Backpackers Hostel – Legazpi, Philippines
Good morning, all. As you can see from the time, it is somewhat early in the morning. Maybe not farmer early, but it is certainly backpacker early. Everyone else in the place is still sleeping, including my two dreadlocked dorm mates. In fact, I never even saw my two dorm mates …

7:17 a.m. Mayon Backpackers Hostel
I’m back on the rooftop of the hostel. The hostel has a lot of furniture in the rooms and on the roof, which is nice, but it is not the most comfortable. It is made out of some kind of rock-hard substance and then painted to look like wood. The furniture in the common area is made of …

The volcano was shut down …

6:30 a.m. Mayon Backpackers Hostel, Legazpi
Yesterday, I uploaded a large part of my journal plus some pictures at an Internet café near the hostel, and it worked out fairly well. I am using an AlphaSmart Neo still and in order to download the contents, I have to attach it to a computer with a USB cable. That turns the NEO into an …
Legazpi Tricycle Construction and the Fiesta
Legazpi is where I landed in the Philippines and I ended up staying there quite a bit longer than I anticipated. I enjoyed cycling around the nearby countryside and getting a feel for the country. I also enjoyed the fiesta that went on for a full month. There was always something new to see and do at night and during the day.
