CNY Lion Dance #3!! Catching Lucky Oranges at Petronas – Tallest Twin Towers in the World
The Chinese New Year holidays were winding down. It was late afternoon on Chap Goh Mei – the fifteenth and final day of the Spring Festival. A lion dance was scheduled for 5:30 at the Suria KLCC mall, and I decided to go there and combine my 3rd full lion dance with a view of the famous Petronas Twin Towers.
The tallest buildings in the world from 1998 to 2004, the Petronas Twin Towers are an imposing sight, especially as you can view them clearly from either the KLCC park behind or from the fountain area at the front. The greatest challenge is staying out of everyone else’s shot and fighting off the urge to buy a smartphone wide-angle lens adapter from the dozens of hawkers selling them.
I could have caught one of the many mandarin oranges that the lion dancers flung into the crowd. That would have been the icing on the cake for all the good luck and prosperity I’d built up for the new year. But I only gave one half-hearted one-handed attempt as an orange was tossed near my head. I felt I’d already built up enough good luck for the year, and I left it for someone else to catch. (Plus I didn’t want to drop my camera.)
