Rice Drying in the Sun
Rice drying on the road. All the roads I cycled down were covered in these large tarps covered in drying rice. I don’t know how the rice-growing seasons work here, but it seems that there recently had been a harvest. I also don’t know what the etiquette is for drivers. Most drove around the rice, but I did see a number of vehicles go right over it. Does that harm the rice? Does it help? I don’t know. One woman told me that the rice needs to stay out there for two days. After two days baking in the hot sun it “becomes rice.” This shot was taken in a farming area on the lower slopes of the Mayon Volcano in the Bicol Region of the Philippines.
