Day 5&6
Friday February 15, 2013
9:15 a.m. Guguan on the Central Cross-Island Highway
I woke up fairly early when I left from Taichung considering everything, and then I packed up my sleeping bag and sleeping mat and backpack. I hung out in my friend’s living room for a little bit and had a cup of coffee. Then just as I was getting ready to leave and making …
Day 4 CNY Scooter Trip 2013
Day 4
Wednesday February 13, 2013
11:30 a.m. Taichung
As you can see from my byline above, I did make it to Taichung. I made it here and I am currently writing on the sofa in a friend’s living room. We were up until nearly five in the morning, so she is still upstairs sleeping. I have never been able to sleep in no matter how late I …
Incense Burning in a Censer in Yingge, Taiwan
I can never resist snapping a picture of incense burning at temples in Taiwan. I particularly like these very large sticks of incense. On one weekend, Scott and I walked to another night market. This one was called the Shanhe Night Market. It is in the district (or city) of Sanchong, across the Danshui …
Lukang 002 – City of Temples
Saturday July 10, 2010
My one full day in Lukang turned out to be a fairly pleasant though extremely hot and confusing one. It was pleasant because there are lots of interesting things to see in Lukang. It was hot because it was really hot (I ended up taking five or six cold-water showers during the day). It was confusing because I could never quite figure …
019 – The Bunna Enfelal
Standing at the front door watching one of the last cloudbursts of the rainy season, Getachew asked me if I’d like to join them for their daily coffee ceremony.
One of the younger girls of the household, Sifrash, was seated on the ground in the main part of the restaurant. In front of her was a small low table with several tiny coffee cups. The coffee …
