9:45 a.m. 85 Degrees Coffee Shop near MOCA
It’s a bit later this morning coffee session. That is, of course, because it is Saturday and I don’t have to go to the office or any school. However, it’s actually later because I ran an errand before I even had my first cup of coffee. The clock is ticking on my departure from Taiwan, …

4:45 a.m. at the 7-11 on Chang-An Road, Taipei
It’s pretty early this morning, as you can see. I was totally wiped out by the work this week and the classes I had to teach yesterday, so I collapsed into bed early. I never mind doing that, especially since my eyes pop open at a nice early hour the next morning and I …

7:30 a.m. at a 7-11 on Chang-An Road in Taipei
I am at my second favorite morning coffee spot. This 7-11 is much larger and has tables as well as the window counter. The other 7-11 is much closer to my apartment, but it is also much smaller and I can feel guilty about occupying a seat there for too long. I decided …

9:37 a.m. 7-11 on Chang-An Road in Taipei
I am at a second 7-11 very close to my apartment in Taipei. I thought I’d give my usual one a break and hang out at this second one. It’s December 1st. It’s not pouring rain right now, but it is still gloomy and overcast. Sprinkling a little bit. It is supposed to rain all …
Jing-Mei Detention Center and the White Terror
I’ve had a brochure for the Jing-Mei Human Rights Memorial and Cultural Park in my knapsack for a long time. I just never had the opportunity to go check it out until recently. Despite its size, the park wasn’t the easiest place in the world to find. There is a handy little map in the brochure, but that didn’t help much.
The jumping off point for …
Newly Opened Xinzhuang MRT Line
A new MRT line opened up recently in Taipei. According to the brochure from Taipei Metro that I picked up, it is called the Xinzhuang Line. It’s orange in color on the MRT maps and currently has 13 stops. It starts at Zhongxiao Station on the blue line and ends at Fu Jen University. According to the map, it will be extended to at least …
